This is an experimental 3D erasure poem dedicated to bubbles, in seltzer water, to be exact. Technically, I’m playing with is how when you move yourself around the words, certain words become more salient and also rearrange. When we have the third dimension, and the ability to move around alters the words and inadvertently change the word proximity, alignment, and order. If you want to do more, you can pop the bubbles (ESC to use mouse click, or just touch if you’re on a Quest). To move, use WASD or just walk if you’re in VR. See how the poem changes when you pop the bubbles? I was curious if I could get the poem to have different outcomes by erasure.
The original poem starts with a celebration of the life of a bubble from appearance to popping:
Sparks swirl in sealed hush
Held tight ‘neath the cap
Fizz bursts forth in rush
Bubbles dance- O! So trapped.
Trails arc to the top.
Mist curls as they pop!
And to experiment with the erasure, I clicked away the. bubbles. I was delighted to note that the bubbles dancing might also cause a word to appear on different lines.
I was happy with this alter poem- “Sparks swril, Hush, held tight. Fizz trapped.” to show a angsty poem. Try making your own version below:
