Sparks Fly for MITverses 2025: MPC Collab#3

I collaborated with Yosun on a single about modern interaction with technology. It narrates how two people find happiness through their shared joy in technology, and the promise of online connections and satisfying curiousity… but then it turns out that technology has downsides such as lack of physicality, loss of privacy, and addiction. This was our track for the MITverses album, MPC Collab#3

Here are the lyrics I wrote:

Sometimes you hear
The hum of power
Sixty cycles of current
Running through the wires.

Curiosity grows
And online we connect
Reaching through the ether
Through the internet

Sometimes you hear
The hum of power
When it’s quiet
The buzz is louder

So easy to click, to take
The data they feed you
So easy to post, a trail
for trackers that read you

Sometimes you hear
The hum of power
When it’s quiet
The buzz is louder

Sixty cycles of current
Tearing through the house
Thrumming through the wires
Lonely lives seek out (sparks fly)

Curiosity grows
And online we connect
Reaching through the ether
Across the world wide web

So easy to click, to take
The data they feed you
So easy to post, a trail
(glitches)

But the sparks of joy
Don’t come from these screens
Your heart is foiled
By digital means

You don’t need electrons
To turn up or turn on
Just be here in the flesh
Heartbeat to heartbeat.

Sometimes you hear
The hum of power
When it’s quiet.
