Paragen
2002

Paragen is short for Parasitic Power Generator. This device steals some of the mechanical energy expended by someone opening a small door, converts that to electrical energy, and then stores it for later use.

A mounted view of the first version. Quickly built and clamped in place, this assembly allowed us to test our assumptions.

The compact second version. The ratchet mechanism is visible within the drum on the left axis.

A mounted view of the second version. From left to right: battery pack and recharging circuit, dc motor, gear assembly, ratchet mechanism (concealed within the coiled strap), force input (strap), recoil mechanism (constant force spring)
